Picoxystrobin, a strobilurin-analog fungicide, is used to control a wide range of fungal diseases. These include yellow and brown rusts, crown rust, powdery mildew, sooty mold, net blotch and leaf blotch, as well as tan spot occurring on cereal crops such as wheat, barley, oats, and rye. It works by inhibiting electron transfer in mitochondria, thereby suppressing fungal respiration, disrupting metabolic processes, and stopping the growth of the target fungi. Picoxystrobin provides both preventative and curative action. It may be used as a standalone fungicide or in combination with other fungicides such as cyproconazole and cyprodinil.
Picoxystrobin (methyl (E)-3-methoxy-2-[22(6-trifluoromethyl-2-pyridyloxymethyl)phenyl]acrylate) from Zeneca Agrochemicals (now Syngenta Crop Protection) was first described by Godwin et al. (33). It has been developed for broad-spectrum control of cereal diseases. The redistribution properties of the molecule, combining xylem systemicity and vapour-phase activity, are considered important for achieving high levels of control across a range of diseases. Picoxystrobin has favourable safety and environmental profiles and enhances grain yield and quality. It is a methoxyacrylate strobilurin fungicide designed for controlling a wide range of cereal diseases. (Agricultural fungicide.)
